Cleopatra Spring, or Ein Joba, as it’s referred to in the Siwan language, is a natural sweet water spring and its the most famous one in the oasis. The water has a nice temperature all year around and the average Siwi has probably learned how to swim there. In Siwa there are around 280 similar springs but they differ in size and many of them are located inside of gardens as they are used for irrigation.
In contrary of what the name says, Cleopatra actually never swam here. Nevertheless, the spring was already famous in ancient times, when it was known as “The Spring of the Sun”. It was first mentioned by Greek historian Herodotus in the 5th century BC.
