DAY 1  |  SIWA HIGHLIGHTS  |  START 13:00 – END 20:30 

We start the day from where it all began: Siwa’s greatest historical treasure, the ancient Oracle Temple of Amun. Alexander the Great himself crossed entire deserts, in 331 BC, to consult its divine authority. We then head to the outskirts of the azure blue waters of the natural salt lakes. Floating in high salinity is known to be beneficial and healing for your health, revitalizing your body and soul.

We pass by the famous Dakrour mountain, as the road takes us to the famous ancient Cleopatra Spring (Joba). You can wash off the salt by plunging into the natural water while enjoying fresh homemade juices. We stop to discover the story narrated in hieroglyphics on the famous ‘Um Ubeyda’ temple.
Our last stop in town is Gabl Mawta (Mountain of the Dead): Siwa’s largest necropolis. Over 2000 pharaonic graves have been discovered in one single mountain. Some graves still have their original colors and their hieroglyphics narrating the stories which date back to 600 BC. Climb to the top of the mountain for a beautiful panorama view over the oasis. 

We will leave town to enjoy what makes Siwa so unique: the sunset overlooking its green gardens, enormous lake, and sand dunes. As night falls, we head back to a natural hot spring camp, where after a traditonally prepared local dinner, you can treat yourself to a natural thermal spa.

DAY 2  |  SIWA GREAT SAND SEA SAFARI  |  START 13:00 – END 20:30 

We start our day at the Siwa House Museum, where we have a glimpse of the of the traditional life of the oasis. We then head to Shali, the famous ancient fortress in the middle of the town. We wander through its narrow streets and go inside the karshif (mud) houses that once housed the entire population. Climb to the top of the ancient city, so you can enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the oasis.

On our way down, we pass by the traditional souq (the market), where you can shop all kinds of local handicrafts. We stop at the newly opened pottery school and the Black Lions Library, which holds a unique collection of historic documentation on the oasis. Back in town, you will have free time to enjoy lunch in the local restaurants, before starting the second part of our adventure. 

With our local safari driver, we embark on a comfortable 4×4 land cruiser, and head to one of the most unforgettable experiences: our safari to the Great Sand Sea.  Enjoy roaring over the sand dunes, see fossilized corals, and have fun practicing sandboarding. On top of the dunes, you will admire one of the most memorable sunsets while enjoying a campfire with delicious Bedouin tea. Dinner will be prepared by our local driver and served under the stars, for the most unforgettable experience. 

DAY 3  |  SIWA WEST|  START 13:00 – END 20:30 

The West of Siwa is originally home to Bedouin tribes, who have their own culture and traditions. This area of the oasis has its own character with phenomenal landscapes, offering an experience to connect with unspoiled nature and mysterious history.

Our first stop brings us to some of Egypt’s most famous eco-lodges, built with sustainable materials from the area. Our trip continues to the remains of the Doric temple, where some speculate that Alexander the Great was once buried. We continue to Balad el Rum (land of the Romans) a large necropolis where hundreds of graves have been carved in the rocks of the mountain. 

As we continue our journey, we arrive at the most westerly located town in Egypt: Bahei elDin village. The view of magnificent rock formations and the pristine lake with its golden sand dunes in the background, are breathtaking. On the top of Ziga mountain, we explore what are believed to be prehistoric footprints. We make our way through this surreal landscape to catch the sunset by the lake, and spot migrating flamingos. While the campfire is lit, local Bedouins prepare the famous Abu Mardam, a delicious traditional dinner, in which meat and rice are cooked in the sand.

DAY 4  |  DEPARTURE / POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS  |  START 13:00 – END 20:30 

The day of departure is flexible and you can plan it according to your preferences. After checking out from your accommodation, you can choose how to spend the rest of your day. Do you prefer to stroll by the local bazaars to do your last shopping? Would you rather relax at one of the hot springs? We can also arrange a visit to the handicrafts factory or to one of the philanthropic projects we support.

TIPS FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE

• Dress modestly and comfortably: Wear modest lightweight breathable clothing. Siwa has a conservative culture, wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees. Wear comfortable shoes are suitable for walking. Don’t forget your swimsuit, sunglasses, sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
