Shali Fortress has withstood the test of time and stands as a testament to the ancienty history and unique architecture of Siwa Oasis. Constructed entirely of mud and salt, this fortress has been a central part of Siwa’s cultural heritage for centuries. Its towering walls and labyrinth-like passages, provide a glimpse into the past preserving its distinctive beauty.  

For almost ten centuries, Shali was home to the entire Siwan population. Built as a frotified village on a hill, its strong walls kept attackers outside, and have thus played a crucial role in mantaining the oasis local culture alive.
